Growing up in Burbank, we were surrounded by palm trees and often heard the cooing of doves/pigeons (same), so it is a blessing to again be surrounded by the same here in Florida!
In the Hebrew Bible, doves or young pigeons are acceptable burnt offerings for those who can't afford a more expensive animal and in the book of Genesis, Noah sent out a dove after the great flood in order to determine how far the floodwaters had receded. Dove is also a term of endearment in the Song of Songs and elsewhere. In the New Testament, Jesus's parents sacrifice doves on his behalf after his circumcision and later the Holy Spirit descended upon Jesus at his baptism like a dove, and subsequently the dove became a common Christian symbol of the Holy Spirit.
